Lead Pastor Job Description
 

Faith Baptist Mission Statement
To bring people to Jesus, to establish them in church fellowship, to develop them in Christlikeness, and to equip them for service in the Church and in society so that God’s name will be exalted.

 
Primary Role
The Lead Pastor is the spiritual leader of the Church and under-shepherd of the Lord Jesus Christ. He is recognised as an Elder who is uniquely called of God to full-time service and equipped with pastoral gifts for ministry within the congregation. The direction of the Church shall rest largely with the Pastor and the Elders acting in accordance with the Church Council and the membership.
 
Required Qualifications
The Lead Pastor must:
1. Be eligible for membership in Faith Baptist Church, including agreement with the statement of faith.
2. Be a preacher of the Gospel and teacher of the faith as embodied in the Scriptures:
3. Be a man of good standing who has a rapport with God, aptitude for this ministry, and displays the characteristics set forth in Titus 1:6ff.
4. Be ordained, or he must have the necessary training and experience to qualify for and be prepared to seek ordination.
 
Primary Job Responsibilities
1. The Lead Pastor shall be responsible for the preaching ministry of Faith Baptist Church including: planning themes, preparation and delivery of sermons, organizing preaching schedules.
2. It is the duty of the Lead Pastor along with the elders to provide spiritual guidance and leadership to the Church.
3. He shall preach the Gospel, teach the Scriptures, administer the ordinances, promote and nurture the spiritual interest of the Church and shall give leadership in organizing and developing the Church for the best possible service in the Kingdom of God.
4. His teachings shall reflect the basic doctrines and beliefs set forth in the Faith Baptist Church Statement of Faith and promote adherence to the standard of conduct in the Faith Baptist Church Covenant.
5. The Lead Pastor shall have administrative charge over all other pastoral/ministerial staff and secretarial support. He will hold regular staff meetings to lead, and foster growth in his staff.
6. He shall be free to attend and participate ex-officio in the meetings of any board, committee or church organization.
7. He shall participate in the preparation of the Vision Statement and in the implementation of the goals and objectives found in it.
8. Complete a lead pastor’s personal Performance Review in cooperation with the elders annually.
9. Complete associate pastor and executive assistants evaluations annually.
10. Be available to give counselling.
11. Provide enthusiastic leadership in evangelism.
12. Provide leadership in visitation.
 
Personal Responsibilities
1. Maintain a vital and growing personal walk with the Lord through committed Bible study, prayer, and meditation.
2. Be a steward of his professional development.
3. Maintain Godly priorities in his home.
4. Develop personal evangelism opportunities within and outside the church.
